Independent Living Team

Provided by: Sight Scotland Veterans

Don’t lose sense of who you are because of changes to your sight.

We support visually impaired veterans to become more independent by:

  • Supporting with everyday living tasks
  • Specialist rehabilitation assessment
  • Providing training in equipment and assistive technology
  • Supplying equipment to support everyday living and more complex requirements

We work in partnership with veterans to maintain or regain their independence and to achieve their personal goals to ensure they are living well. Whether that’s being able to stay connected with friends and family, planning and preparing a meal for themselves or enjoying an old hobby again, we are here to help.

Our Independent Living Workers provide:

  • Person-centered, visual impairment assessments
  • Emotional support in relation to sight loss
  • Information and advice
  • Referral and signposting to other relevant agencies
  • Visual Impairment Awareness raising through attending various organised events where we can advise on our services and can also offer talks to organisations.
  • Veterans Sight Support Groups throughout Scotland

Veterans Sight Support Groups are run by our Independent Living Workers throughout Scotland and bring together veterans for a cuppa and chat and offer various activities. We support veterans to come together to make new friendships and connections. Families, friends and carers are also welcome.
