Financial Wellbeing

Provided by: Sight Scotland Veterans

Don’t lose sense of who you are because of changes to your sight.

New costs can arise, and it can be difficult to budget for. Veterans affected by sight loss can get expert advice from our Financial Wellbeing Service.

This may include:

  • support to make adaptions to veterans’ homes to ensure the home environment is suitable for a visually impaired person
  • buying new appliances that are easier to use for visually impaired people.

Support to apply for benefits:

The benefit system is complex, and many people are unsure of what they are eligible for. The financial wellbeing service have experts on hand for guidance and support.

The Financial Wellbeing Service gives personalised advice to veterans & supports with the application of benefits they are entitled to. Including working age benefits, disability benefits & pension benefits, we also support with appealing decisions requesting mandatory reviews or going all the way to tribunal.

The Financial Wellbeing team can support veterans with applying for concessions that they are entitled too due to their sight loss, including TV license & blind persons tax allowance.

Sight Scotland Veterans have launched a grants programme to support the independence of veterans with sight loss. This can be anything from help with hobbies to independence around the house.

So far this year we have helped with chess boards, stairlifts, and bathroom alterations. We look at all requests individually and make decisions quickly.
