Our purpose, set out by OSCR, is to advance education for the public benefit through the study and practice of archaeology, securing Scotland’s heritage for its people.

With over 80 years’ experience, we deliver inclusive learning, volunteering, and community programmes that connect people with the past.

Widening participation is central to our work; we remove social, economic, and geographic barriers through outreach and partnerships, particularly supporting underserved groups.

We also help safeguard archaeological sites through community led conservation initiatives such as Adopt a Monument. Through education, engagement, and stewardship, Archaeology Scotland ensures heritage is protected, accessible, and meaningful for present and future generations.
